33B: Glass Hammer's Ascent DOWNLOADS: PLAYLIST: Glass Hammer: Sun Song, from the 2007 album Culture of Ascent Ludwig Van Beethoven: Trevor Jones: Theme from The Last of the Mohicans, arranged and performed by the Adonia String Trio Arcangelo Corelli: Pastorale, performed by the Adonia String Trio, from their 2007 release Welcome, Christmas Glass Hammer: Ember Without a Name (excerpts), from Culture of Ascent NOTES: Glass Hammer is at the forefront of the new American progressive rock scene. In October of 2007 they released their 8th Studio album, entitled Culture of Ascent. The album features Guitarist David Walliman and Vocalist Carl Groves, along the Adonia String Trio and special guest appearances of Jon Anderson of Yes. The album starts with a remarkable cover of the classic Yes favorite South Side of the Sky. I have already featured Glass Hammer in the past, giving them a full hour-long special feature. However, I wanted a chance to do a telephone interview with them, and the release of Culture of Ascent provided a perfect opportunity. During our interview, both Steve and Fred indicated that their primary classical influences were the great Romantic and Classical period composers. Fred mentions specifically that the string music of Beethoven inspires him, so I've included a portion of Beethoven's 7th String Quartet. The Adonia String Trio has appeared on Glass Hammer's last 3 studio albums, as well as several live recordings. They perform professionally on a regular basis and have recently released their first album, Welcome, Christmas. Lear more about the group and order their CD on their website: Fred and Steve wanted me to point out that although their primary focus is Culture of Ascent, they also released an album of material that has never appeared on a Glass Hammer recording from the last 5 years, entitled Compilations. Listen to samples of both albums and purchase them directly from their website:
